God Always Speaks through His People

If one spends any real time studying scripture, it becomes clear that God always speaks through His people. The fact that God has always and will always use people to declare truth and call people to repentance is critical in this season. This is what some would call prophetic voice.

One Does Not Have to Be a Prophet to Have Prophetic Voice

Fallacy #1: I don’t have a prophetic voice because I’m not a prophet.

Don’t believe the lie that only those with the gift of prophecy have prophetic voice. Amos was clear that he was chosen by God to speak to Israel. He was a herdsman and a grower of fig trees. God gave him prophetic voice.

Prophetic voice is not telling the future

Fallacy #2: prophetic voice is telling the future.

Consider these definitions of prophetic voice:

The Bible's prophets were those who warned the Jewish people that they were off course, had stopped listening to God and needed to reconnect and recommit. It's an unpopular kind of message and they tended to be unpopular, figures of derision more than respect. The modern prophetic voice is the same. It asks hard questions and redirects us to the leadership of the Holy Spirit. (Reference: Quaker Martin Kelly)

A prophetic voice deals with the issues people face today and tomorrow, and how to deal with these issues in the light of Christs message of forgiving grace for every new day. (Reference: Manfred W. Kohl)

Consider these to scriptures:

30 The mouth of the righteous utters wisdom, And his tongue speaks justice. Psalm 37:30

8 Open your mouth for the mute, For the rights of all the unfortunate. 9 Open your mouth, judge righteously, And defend the rights of the afflicted and needy. Proverbs 31:8-9

Consider definition of prophetic voice

The main purpose of having a prophetic voice is to point people towards God. Having a prophetic voice is more than insightful advice, but the ability to tune into what the Holy Spirit is saying to both the culture and to people and then being able to communicate this. (Reference: 420prayer.com)
